Sydney FC learning from Victory loss

Losing is not a crime; it's how you react that matters.

It's a motto Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold is running on as his side reel from their first bad result of this A-League season.

It's with a 4-2 defeat to Melbourne Victory fresh in their minds that the near full strength Sky Blues travel to Perth's nib Stadium this Saturday in a bid to snatch three points from lowly Glory and return to winning ways.

Arnold wasn't discouraged by the team's home performance last weekend, adamant it was "on par" with the Victory and only fell away in extra-time when the prolific Besart Berisha netted his second.

But he was intent that the playing group should learn from defeat.

"It's not a crime to lose, it's what you learn out of it," Arnold said.

"That's how you bounce back the week after."

Given Sydney's enviable away record - 17 successive unbeaten matches - they are, on paper, in a decent position to return home victorious and challenge leaders Brisbane for the A-League summit once again.

Their cause is helped by Perth's form issues resulting in only one win so far against Adelaide, who are just one spot behind them on the table in last place.

Arnold admitted the outstanding away streak was an anomaly to him.

More clear in his mind was the reason nearly all of Sydney's winning goals have come in the final 10 minutes of play.

"It's probably that we're fitter than other teams and we're running over the top of teams at the back end of games," Arnold said.

"That's probably why we're scoring goals towards the back end of games.

"As well because it's the start of the season a lot of coaches don't want to lose, so they set up quite defensive against us and make it harder for us.

"But by the end of the game because we control possession more and control the game more they run out of legs.

"It doesn't matter if you score in the first 15 or last 15, as long as you get the three points."
