Sydney FC striker Shane Smeltz is looking forward to stepping out of Marc Janko's shadow this A-League season now the record Austrian goalscorer has left the club.
Despite starting in only nine matches last season because of Janko's sizzling form and 16 goals, the 34-year-old Kiwi international still managed to score eight goals of his own in his 21 appearances.
"If (more game time) comes, it comes," Smeltz said ahead of the Sky Blues' opening match against Melbourne City on Saturday at Allianz Stadium.
"I've had a very good pre-season. I'm looking forward to playing as much as I can, and I'm sure everyone else is in the same position."
