Frank Farina has been sacked as Sydney FC coach, following what was a disappointing season for the Sky Blues, which ended last Friday night with their elimination final loss to Melbourne Victory.
Speculation had been rife that Farina would be shown the door if Sydney failed to reach the A-League’s top-four at the end of the regular season, and despite coming awfully close to reaching that mark in the final round, a fifth placed finish was ultimately not enough to save the former Socceroos boss.
Chairman Scott Barlow delivered a brief statement on Wednesday, confirming that the club has decided to part ways with Farina.
"Frank joined us as coach in a difficult period last season and has always given his absolute dedication and commitment to the club," Barlow said.
"Frank has shown great integrity and resolve in what has been often challenging circumstances this year.
"I would like to pay tribute to Frank for his professionalism and wish him well for the future."
The club will now begin the search for their eighth coach in less than a decade of existence, with Graham Arnold, who is believed to be currently in negotiations with the Newcastle Jets, expected to be the prime target.
Have your say: Do you agree with the club’s decision to sack Farina? And who would you like to see replace him as head coach?
